The Biodynamic Breathwork and Trauma Release System® (BBTRS®) contains 6 potent elements which work together synergistically to create the most powerful releases, healing, and transformation possible. The 6 elements include movement, meditation, sound, touch, emotions, and breath – and although all 6 play vital roles, connected breathing takes center stage. Acting as a catalyst, deep and connected breathing heightens awareness and strategically engages the nervous system to gently release what trauma has left behind.
Why We Deliberately Activate the SNS
There is no shortage of breathing practices available and most of them activate the ‘rest & digest’ Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS). These techniques prove beneficial in moments of heightened stress or anxiety, inducing relaxation and a sense of calm, and aiding in falling asleep. While valuable as short-term solutions to calm the mind and body, these practices function more like a band-aid. They effectively address immediate symptoms, but they fall short of addressing the underlying tensions and traumas deeply embedded in the body, which constitute the root causes of much of the stress and anxiety we experience.
The deliberate activation of the ‘fight or flight’ Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) branch in BBTRS®, is a key element of the therapeutic process. The ‘fight or flight’ response, is a primal survival mechanism that triggers physiological changes designed to prepare the body for immediate action. When faced with adverse experiences accompanied by overwhelm, and a consequent inability to process the experience in the moment, the energy of that trauma will embed itself within the body, leading to chronic tension, emotional blockages, and even physical pain. BBTRS® recognizes this intricate interplay between the SNS and trauma, and provides a methodical approach to unlock and release the residual patterns.
